Quality Engineer

Job purpose and description
The Quality Engineer position is responsible for assuring compliance to the corporate quality assurance system and customer specific requirements, as part of a team that promotes customer satisfaction, which positively impacts the financial performance of the company. Champion continuous improvement efforts and defect reduction initiatives to assure an effective Quality Management System (QMS).

  1. Responsible for selection of special characteristics, and related training.
  2. Responsible for coordinating quality related activities within the company, including corrective and preventive action.
  3. Coordinate company activities for the resolution of customer complaints.
  4. Attend meetings at customer locations to resolve quality related issues.
  5. Maintains direct communication with customer contacts.
  6. Prepares and maintains corrective and preventive actions for customer complaints.
  7. Follows PPAP submissions and various test sample runs.
  8. Monitors and communicates to team any customer reported supplier performance concerns.
  9. Monitors PPM performance versus objectives, provide insights and data analysis to company for defect resolution.
  10. Reviews and analyzes product returned from customers.
  11. Review and disposition customer financial charge backs.
  12. Prepares and up-dates Process flow charts, Control Plans, PFMEA.
  13. Provides support to inspectors and technicians for quality related issues.
  14. Monitors and communicates customer quality related procedures.
  15. Generate Quality Assurance Department procedures and work instructions and train associates upon deployment.
  16. Investigate, conducts cost-benefit analysis and proposes department investments for continuous improvement.
  17. Measure and monitor customer satisfaction.
  18. Maintain adherence to company policies and safety standards.
  19. Awareness of and assure compliance to customer specific requirements.
  20. Makes disposition of contained product.
  21. Assures that training and development needs are identified and programs initiated.
  22. Develops short and long-range objectives.
  23. Function as Quality Manager as needed in his/her absence

  1. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and Power Point.
  2. Proven knowledge of Statistical techniques, data collection and analysis for problem resolution, and of brainstorming techniques (5Why, Fishbone, etc)
  3. Good knowledge of AIAG PPAP, APQP, and automotive industry procedures
  4. Strong knowledge of GD&T
  5. CMM Programming is a plus.
  6. High Pressure Die Casting knowledge is a plus.
  7. CNC Machining knowledge is a plus.
  8. Six-Sigma or Shainin Red-X methods is a plus.

Work Environment
This job operates in a clerical, office, as well as a factory setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to odors, fumes, dust or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree inMechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent number of years of experience.
  1. Five (5) years of experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control, with three (3) years as a CQE in a mass production, manufacturing environment.
